I consider making art is a process of discovery and looking harder. It is the possibility of seeing something different and perhaps previously overlooked, that continually interests me in art, as well as my daily life. I love being inspired by things that I’ve found by chance—especially things in nature—and experimenting with combinations of color, texture and form. If I’m lucky I have something I’m happy with at the end of the process.

A note on the artist books: Recently I have been experimenting with transforming mixed media monotypes into accordian-folded books, which tell stories or are responses to places and memories. I consider them “portable art,” in that while these small pieces can be “read” and tucked away on a shelf, the are also meant to be unfolded and displayed horizontally, or hung vertically alone or grouped, either at home, or in a temporary space, perhaps while traveling.
